HOPE - Lock down in South Africa

This is my first ever blog post, so be gentle with your criticism and bear in mind I am not a writer :) If you have any tips,please let me know in the comments.

It's been a long and scary journey the last 5 weeks, I decided to stay on my own. In hindsight I don't think it has been the best decision but I have done better than I thought. There have been some moments of extreme boredom but that also made me slightly creative which you can see in the pictures :)

I have always enjoyed staying on my own,enjoying my own time, doing what I like but that has been because I normally work 12 hours a day. The start of the year was crazy busy and I officially started working for myself.

The last 3 years I have been a in-house content creator/producer for Pernod Ricard, South Africa based in Cape Town. Enjoyed working for them,first time ever working in a corporate environment. I had the opportunity to work on some amazing brands such as Absolut Vodka,Jameson Whiskey,Chivas Regal, GH Mumm Champagne and few other great brands. I had the opportunity to travel to many countries and with some great people and big agencies.

I did what I needed to do at Pernod Ricard, the push was when they moved to Johannesburg. I had the opportunity to go with them but Johannesburg was not my kind of place and I wanted to do my own thing.

As I mentioned, the months that followed in the new year of 2020 were great, lots of work and opportunities that were coming my way. Slowly as the year progressed, COVID -19 started showing its ugly face in South Africa. Jobs started to be cancelled,travel was banned and you know the rest.

My point that I am trying to get across, is that at the moment its crazy difficult for creatives, especially freelance creatives. I hate just sitting at home. I have become a bit depressed because of the awesome jobs that I had lined up and are no longer happening. These jobs were very exciting and it's sad! I no longer have the luxury of working for someone, so no work means no pay.

I know there are a lot of us in the same boat. I really hope that the Level 4 doesn't last that long. I wish and hope this week has an answer from the government on how long we plan to be in the "Level 4" lock down.

Last week I took some footage I shot awhile ago before lock down. Origin Music Festival, Corona Sunsets and pieces of content for a Rooibos brand based in the United States. I wrote a small script, got a cool guy from Fiverr to do my voice over and edited a piece together which I called HOPE.
